Kongu Style Milagu Rasam

South indian meals never ends without rasam. Its perfect for digestion too. Milagu rasam is prepared by using freshly grinded spices,it will give nice flavour. My mom used to prepare this rasam weekly once.Serve with hot white rice or you can drink as soup.




Servings: 3- 4 People
Ingredients:
To Sauté and To Grind:

  • 1 tsp coconut oil 
  • 1/2 tsp corainder seeds
  • 1 red chilly
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • Curry leaves
  • 1/8 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp water

To Temper:

  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  • Curry leaves
  • Asafoetida 
  • 1 cup tamarind extract(small lemon size tamarind)
  • 1 medium sized tomato roughly squeezed
  • Grinded paste
  • Salt as required
  • 3/4 - 1 cup water
  • Corainder leaves

Method:

  • Saute the ingredients mentioned under ‘To sauté and To Grind’,until nice aroma arises.Allow it to cool and grind to a fine paste.
  • Heat oil in pan, add mustard seeds,curry leaves and asafoetida.Let it splutter.
  • Then add tamarind extract, squeezed tomatoes and salt.Allow it to roll boil.
  • Switch off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves.
