Kara Kozhukatai\Pidi kozhukatai\Rice dumplings

Usually Kozhukatai made with rice flour, here I demonstrated with freshly soaked rice and with few spices.Coconut is the main ingredient.I have received good feedbacks from my friends too.So I posted this recipe today. .
Servings:2 people Detailed Recipe: 1 cup = 250 ml INGREDIENTS: To Soak: 3/4 cup idly rice 1 tbsp channa dhal 2 cups water To Grind: 1 tsp cumin seeds 5 red chillies Curry leaves 3/4 cup grated coconut 1 garlic clove Soaked rice + dhal mixture Water(if needed) To Sauté: 1 tbsp oil 1/2 tbsp channa dhal 1 tsp mustard seeds Curry leaves 1 chopped medium size onion Salt as required Grinded rice mixture 1 tbsp grated coconut

Detailed recipe with step by step instructions:


Method: 1.Soak rice and dhal by adding water for atleast 3-5 hours. 2.In a mixie jar,add cumin seeds,red chillies,curry leaves,garlic cloves,grated coconut and soaked rice mixture .Grind to a coarse paste by adding little water(added 4 tbsp water). 3.Heat oil in a pan,add mustard seeds and channa dhal.Let it splutter. 4.Then add onions,curry leaves and salt,sauté until onion turns little transparent. 5.Then add grinded rice mixture and sauté until Moisture content gets absorbed(you should be able to make oval shaped dumplings).Switch off the stove and allow it to cool. 6.Add water to the steamer and allow it to roll boil.Keep the idly plate or steamer plate and lined with damp cloth. 7.Take a small size ball and make oval shape dumpling(refer video).Cover and cook for 15-20 mins in medium high flame. 8.Serve hot with curd or coconut chutney.
