Soya Chunks Puttu\Mealmaker Puttu:


Soya Chunks are extremly high in protein,fiber,minerals and vitamins.You can make variety of  recipes like briyani,curries,cutlets and rolls. Soya chunks is the best meat alernative for vegeterians. Lets see how to make soya chunks puttu in this recipe.



Servings:3
1 cup = 250 ml

Ingredients:

To Boil Soya Chunks:

  • 2 cups soya chunks(small)
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 tsp salt


To Grind:

  • 1/3 cup coconut slices
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1/4 inch piece of ginger
  • 1/4 inch piece of cinnamon
  • 3 cloves
  • 3 cardamom
  • 2 green chillies


For Soya Chunks Puttu:

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp fennel seeds
  • 1 finely chopped medium size onion 
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • Grinded mixture
  • Salt as required
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • Boiled soya chunks
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing


Method:

  • Add water and salt in a pan,allow it it roll boil.Add soya chunks and switch off the flame.Let it rest for 10 mins.Wash soya chunks twice under running water and squeeze excess water from it and keep aside.
  • Grind the soya chunks using pulse mode in mixie. Give exactly 3 pulses,else it will grind to a fine paste.It wont be good for making puttu.
  • Grind the ingredients mentioned under 'To Grind' to a coarse mixture without adding water.Keep aside
  • Heat oil in a pan.add fennnel seeds.Let it roast for 30 secs.Meanwhile add onions and curry leaves,saute until it turns light brown colour.
  •  Then add grinded mixture,spice powders and salt,saute until raw smell of the grinded mixture vanishes(appx 8 mins in medium flame).
  • Finally add grinded soya chunks and saute(appx 15 mins in a low flame & 5 mins in medium flame) until soya chunks completely mixed with the masalas.If needed,add a.tsp of oil.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and switch off the stove.Serve as a side dish for south indian meals.



Note:

  • You can use bigger soya chunks too.
  • Adjust salt and spice levels according to your taste.
